The 66-day philosophy (and the instant shifts)

Some change takes time. Research suggests it takes 66 days of repeated behaviour to truly embed or remove a habit; that’s the foundation of sustainable transformation through consistent, supported effort.

But here’s what’s equally important: some change can be instant.

When you identify an unhelpful belief and see it clearly for the first time, your behaviour can shift immediately. If you’ve been telling yourself “I can’t lead across functions unless I have direct experience of those jobs” and we reframe that to “Leading across functions takes great leadership, not in-depth technical knowledge”, that belief-level shift opens up new possibilities right now, not in 66 days.

Sometimes you change the belief first, and the behaviours follow naturally. Sometimes you need to change the behaviours first, and the belief catches up over time; that’s where the 66-day philosophy comes in. And sometimes you set a big, ambitious goal, a new outcome that scares you a bit, and that forces your hand on how you’ll need to behave differently, which eventually shifts something at the identity level.

1:1 coaching built into every programme

Real change doesn’t happen in classrooms. That’s why every leadership development programme I design includes individual coaching relationships alongside the group work. To date, over 120 individual coaching relationships have been built into my programmes; because that’s where the real shifts happen.
